Dr. Royal is a DIPLOMATE International Dental Implant Association.
Dr. Royal has practiced general dentistry in South Florida for over 27 years. Originally born in Kentucky, Dr. Royal graduated from the University of Louisville School of Dentistry.
While practicing dentistry in Boca Raton, Dr. Royal served the South Palm Beach County Dental Association as Children’s Dental Health Month Chairman, Secretary, Editor, and Vice President.
Dr. Royal is a strong believer in lifelong continuing education. He consistently acquires 2-3 times the required credits for licensure in the state of Florida. He strives to stay current on all the latest technological advances to be able to offer his patients all current options for optimal dental health and aesthetics.
This level of certification is awarded to dentists who have achieved high levels of training and skill in dental implant surgery, bone grafting, and dental implant restoration.
Ryan Whelen DMD
Dr. Ryan Whelen completed his doctorate at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale. He’s dedicated to providing his patients with the highest level of comprehensive dentistry. He consistently expands his knowledge and expertise in advanced dental procedures via post-doctorate training with nationally recognized dental organizations.
Dr. Whelen completed an extensive residency in cosmetic dentistry through Digital Smile Design with Dr. Christian Coachman, respected worldwide as one of the most comprehensive leaders in cosmetic smile makeovers. Dr. Whelen is an active member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry and a member of the renowned Spear Dental Academy, widely recognized as a leading institution in the training of complex dental restoration & full mouth reconstruction.
Dr. Whelen has completed over 300 hours of advanced education in Implant Dentistry with the American Academy of Implant Dentistry. He’s skilled in surgical dental extractions and the use of platelet-rich plasma with advanced bone grafting techniques. He’s also an expert in root canal therapy, having undergone extensive training the treatment of complex root canal procedures.
Furthermore, Dr. Whelen is a licensed provider for LANAP (“laser gum surgery”), a no-scalpel, no-suture alternative to traditional surgical techniques for advanced gum disease. Dr. Whelen’s passion for dentistry includes eliminating disease with the highest standard of esthetic outcomes.
Outside the office, Dr. Whelen is an avid runner, adventurous skier, and has a passion for travel. He is a hockey fan and history buff who enjoys his time at the beach with a book or home practicing classical guitar. Recently Dr. Whelen has welcomed home a Great Dane, Ovi.

In his free time, Dr. Royal enjoys coaching youth sports. He has coached high-level travel soccer for over 20 years and holds national-level coaching certificates. He has also coached softball, football, basketball, and hare scramble dirt bike racing. Dr. Royal and his family have also competed on horseback in team sorting, team penning, cutting, reining, and reining cow horse competitions.
One of Dr. Royal’s greatest joys in life is the warm satisfaction of changing a person’s life with the complete restoration of a healthy smile, especially for a patient who spent most of their life terrified of the dentist.
